Christmas season is just right around the
corner and a great way to kick off the holiday season here in London is to
witness the lighting ceremony of the historic Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square.
The festive lighting will happen on December 5, at 6pm.
This holiday attraction dates back to 1947.
Each year, a Christmas tree from Oslo, Norway is donated to the people
of Britain as a symbol of their gratitude when Britain supported Norway during
the second world war. The famous tree is adorned with vertical Christmas lights
to represent the traditional Norwegian style.
This gigantic Christmas tree is usually a
50-60 year old spruce, standing over 20 meters tall. It is hailed from Norway
itself, chopped down, then shipped to the United Kingdom by sea.
Hundreds of people will gather at the world
famous Trafalgar Square to witness the annual lighting of the traditional
Christmas Tree in London. So, if you are staying at any of the hotels in Covent
Garden London, this is something not to be missed. Create lasting
memories with your loved ones by watching carols sung by 40 different choir
groups every night from December 9-24. Watch a special blessing of the crib
ceremony and torch lit procession in Trafalgar Square to welcome the holiday
season.
