Getting a Cheap Lunch Near the British Museum: Where to Go


Traveling around London can often leave you hungry. If you happen to find 
yourself near or at the British Museum, you might be wondering where you can 
eat without going over the budget. Here then are a few places where you can 
expect a budget-friendly lunch after visiting the museum but make sure to book 
a stay at any of the hotels near Soho in London for easy access.


  1. Bibimbab Cafe

As the name would imply, this cafe at 37 Museum Street serves a purely 
authentic Korean dining experience. Prices here are manageable as they could 
go as low as £1.00 and no higher than £15.00. A must-try here is the Dolsot 
Bibimbab Set. It features a sampling of Dolsot Bibimbab, a bowl of soup, and a 
drink for only £10.00. The cafe opens from Monday to Sunday from 10:00 AM to 
8:00 PM.

  1. Mary Ward Centre Cafe
Located at the Mary Ward Centre at 42 Queen Square, this cafe is known for 
providing generous portions of vegan-friendly meals at extremely cheap prices. 
Soups here could go as low as £3.00, while the main courses fetch prices no 
higher than £5.00. As for drinks, they could go from £0.50 to £1.00. The cafe is 
open from Monday to Saturday.

  1. Cabmen’s Shelter
Located at Russell Square, the Cabmen’s Shelter has made a name for itself, 
providing cheap British breakfast and lunch staples. Dishes like eggs, sausage, 
and bacon are offered here in generous portions, as well as some of the cheapest 
cups of tea and coffee in Russell Square.
You can easily spot the Cabmen’s Shelter as it’s the only wooden hut at the 
northwest center of Russell Square. They are open as early as 7:00 AM but 
would close at 2:30 PM.

  1. Waitrose

Situated at the Brunswick Center at its farthest end, this supermarket is known 
for offering a multi-cuisine dining experience. They have a decent selection of 
sandwiches and cold cuts, as well as a rather respectable sushi counter.

However, the main attraction here is the rotisserie, which serves generous 
portions of roasted chicken. Seating at the Waitrose is decent. The seats nearest 
to the garden just outside the exit are the most sought-after spots. The 
Waitrose is open as long as the Brunswick Centre is, which is from Monday to 
Sunday.

  1. Chang’s Noodle
The prices at this restaurant at New Oxford might be comparatively pricier than 
the rest on this list, but it’s still within the realms of what you can consider as 
“low-priced” As the name implies, Chang’s Noodle aims to offer an authentic 
Chinese dining experience by offering dishes coming from the Szechuan and 
Henan cuisines.
A must try here is their signature dish, the Henan Lamb Noodle Soup, which is 
priced at £7.50. The restaurant is open from Monday to Sunday.
